Introduction
Nixon IT were contacted by a local recycling business based in Llanrhaeadr near Denbigh.
With a growing need for efficient communication tools and enhanced security measures, the client decided to embark on a project to migrate to Microsoft 365 and also install a comprehensive CCTV system to cover all areas of the business premises.
Challenges:
- Outdated IT Infrastructure: The existing IT infrastructure was outdated and relied on traditional email systems, making communication less efficient.
- Security Concerns: With valuable electronic components and sensitive customer information on-site, the need to improve security measures was essential.
- Limited Surveillance: The business had limited surveillance capabilities, which were insufficient for monitoring the premises and deterring potential theft or vandalism.
Objectives:
- Microsoft 365 Migration: Migrate client’s email and collaboration tools to Microsoft 365 to improve communication and collaboration within the organization.
- Enhanced Security: Implement a robust CCTV system to monitor the premises and enhance security measures.
- Installation of new IT infrastructure: Supply of a new FTTP broadband line, supply and install a VOIP phone and local number, Dreytek router, monitors and keyboards to go alongside existing laptops at the premises.
Solution and Results
Microsoft 365 Migration:
- Assessment: Conducted a thorough assessment of the existing IT infrastructure, including email systems and software.
- Planning: Developed a migration plan to seamlessly transition to Microsoft 365, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.
- Migration: Executed the migration process, which included migrating emails, calendars, and contacts to Microsoft 365.

CCTV Installation:
- Site Evaluation: Conducted a comprehensive site evaluation to identify critical areas for camera placement.
- System Design: Designed a customized CCTV system using high-resolution cameras, recording equipment, and remote access capabilities.
- Installation: Installed cameras at strategic locations both inside and outside the premises, including entry points, storage areas, and parking lots.
- Integration: Integrated the CCTV system with existing network infrastructure for remote monitoring and playback
- Enhanced Security: The CCTV system provided 24/7 surveillance, deterring potential threats and allowing the client to monitor the premises remotely from any mobile device.
- Incident Resolution: The CCTV footage proved invaluable in resolving incidents such as unauthorized access attempts and theft.
Installation of new IT infrastructure:
- Assessment: Conducted a thorough assessment of the existing IT hardware and existing 4g internet.
- Planning: Developed a hardware installation plan to upgrade the existing 4g internet setup to a full FTTP line and also implement a VOIP phone system.
- Installation: Our telecoms team got to work with the new broadband line and this was seamously installed by Openreach 2 weeks after the order was put in. Once the line went live our installation team then installed a Dreytek router, Yealink VOIP phone, 2 x HDMI monitors and 2 x keyboard and mouse sets.
Conclusion:
The Microsoft 365 migration, CCTV, broadband and VOIP installation successfully addressed the client’s objectives of improving communication, collaboration, and security. They now enjoy a modernized IT infrastructure with enhanced security measures, contributing to the continued growth and success of their business.
